Book of Common Prayer
The Book of Common Prayer
Cambridge: Printed by J & C.F.Clay at the University Press. n.d. [1899].
16mo. 145x90mm. Unpaginated, collates, pi2, b16, 1-16-20-16. Closed tear to 13-8. Attractively bound by E. Worrall of Birmingham (binder's ticket on front pastedown) in an Arts and Crafts style with a low relief flower motif in the centre of the upper cover surrounded by a blind-tooled border. Beneath the flower are the initials E.P. This is Elizabeth Phillips to whom the book was given as noted in an inscription, as "a parting gift from M. Gertrude Jolly December 8th 1899". Gilt tooled turn-ins and marbled endpapers. Worrall was a noted Birmingham binder and this is a very pretty example of his work in what would have been a very up-to-the-minute example of Arts and Craft design.
