Moon Trail and White Hawk. Messages from the Spirit World.
An archive of manuscript and typed material relating to the Great Metropolitan Spiritualist Association (GMSA).
1. Eleven typed transcripts of addresses and messages from the spirit world. These are from spirits known as Moon Trail and White Hawk. One was channelled through a Mrs Hambling and the others are, given the provenance, probably through Harold Jones himself as he was a well known medium. The earliest is dated July 13th 1930 and the latest January 1943.
2. Minute book of the Finsbury Park Church of Spirit Teaching. Central Council. January to March 1934. pp87. 225x170mm. Maroon cloth bound exercise book. This body quickly fell into debt and was wound up. To set matters on a more formal and professional footing an incorporated body known as the Great Metropolitan Spiritualist Association Ltd. was then established.
3. Minute book of the Great Metropolitan Spiritualist Association Ltd. Incorporated May 3rd 1934. (329x203mm brown cloth). pp177 of handwritten and typed minutes of meetings of the Association from 1st May 1934 to 29th January 1935.
4. Typescript of the "Inaugural Meeting and Dedication Service of New Healing Sanctum by Meughli (Through Mrs. Esta Cassel) and Moon Trail. (Through Mr H.S.Hambling). Title page and seven typed leaves (on recto only - 255x190mm). October 26th 1934"Bound in brown card wrappers, stapled at left edge. Final page of text has a repaired closed tear. Upper cover is illustrated with the symbol of the Association above which is handwritten "Record of Dedication Service Held on Friday, October 26th 1934 to Inaugurate the Healing Services of the Great Metropolitan Spiritualist Association Ltd."
5. A collection of 100 letters to Harold Jones from 1936 to 1941. Jones was the founder and President of GMSA. This extensive correspondence reflects his vast array of contacts and his central role in the British Spiritualist movement.
6. Two complete copies of "Psychic News" (dated December 31st 1938 and September 1940). And four extracts from copies of "Psychic News". All have articles by Harold Jones (including one entitled "Is Spiritualism in Decay") or about him and GMSA.
7. Four insurance policies for GMSA.
8. Five notices published by GMSA entitled "Syllabus" giving details of services, healings, seances and other events organised by Spiritualist Associations affiliated to GMSA.
9. Miscellaneous documents including a newsletter, poem, drawing and newspaper cuttings.
10. Two photographs mounted on card. One of them shows a large formal dinner. On the back is inscribed "Pembroke County Club, 19th Annual Dinner, Holborn Restaurant London March 2nd 1912" and then the names of various members of a "Jones" family. The other photograph is of a group of men. Perhaps these are all Joneses. It is not clear that these are related to the Spiritualist material save for their presumed connection with Harold Jones.
Great Metropolitan Spiritualist Association was a network of Spiritualist Churches and Centres based in and around London. Founded in 1934, it quickly expanded, bringing a large number of Spiritualist Associations under its umbrella.
