One of the great dystopian novels. Banned in Russia, it was first published in New York in an English translation. The original Russian text was not published until 1952 but not in Russia where it only appeared in 1988 as a result of Gorbachev's glasnost. Enormously influential, Zamyatin's We lay behind much later dystopian fiction including Brave New World, 1984 and Animal Farm.
