Portraits of the 70s by Andy Warhol

First edition. Presentation copy with inscription to Ray Connolly. 228x215mm. pp.141 (iiibl). Original pictorial wrappers. Corners slightly bumped but an excellent copy. Andy Warhol’s inscription on half-title and signature on top right margin of p.121. Inscriptions read “To Ray love Andy” and “Andy”. Prolific British writer Ray Connolly (b.1940) is notable for co-authoring music films ‘That’ll be the Day’ and ‘Stardust’. During the 1960s he wrote extensively on the British music scene.

This catalogue was issued to accompany Warhol’s exhibition which ran from November 1979 to January 1980 at The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Edited by David Witney, it features 56 of Warhol’s most famous celebrity portraits and an essay by Robert Rosenblum. An excellent copy of a rare pop art catalogue with authentic rock & roll provenance.
