Fading and slight soiling to spine and bumping to head and foot of spine. Edges toned and slight cracking to hinges. Ownership inscription on front free endpaper. Overall a very good copy of a scarce book, Worldcat recording eleven copies and no copies appearing in the auction records. The Call is regarded as on of the most important suffrage and feminist novels.

London: C and J Ollier. 1821.Second edition. pp. xvii (but xv), 104. Lacking half title. The original book has been disbound and the pages cut, very neatly and expertly and then carefully pasted at the hinge edge on a leaf of plain white paper so that the leaves of text are interleaved with the plain leaves. This is one way in which prompt books were made, allowing for notes and directions to be written on the plain leaves without disturbing the text. The leaves of text are cut to measure 151x95mm and the plain paper is 235x190mm.

Illustrated with thirteen wood engravings, twelve by Thomas Bewick from designs by his brother John and the final one by Bewick's pupil Charlton Nesbit. Bound in navy blue morocco, decorated in gilt and blind. Turn ins decorated in gilt. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Corners a little worn, some marking and scuffing to boards and rubbing to upper joint but overall a handsome binding in good condition. Some foxing and spotting but otherwise internally very good.

Bumping to head and foot of spines with some very small tears. Some slight marking in places and rubbing to joints. Internally very good but with some slight loosening to the hinges in volume two. This second volume has the signature of "O.

Some marking and soiling to boards, rubbing to edges and slight fraying to head and foot of spine. Internally very good and overall a nice copy of a book which is rare in commerce, no copies appearing in the auction records. Eleanor Kirk (1831-1908) was an extraordinary woman who wrote curious books.

Modern brown cloth, slight rubbing to extremities. Frontispiece is a little chipped along fore-edge and all plates are a little foxed and there is offsetting from them.

n.p. c1830.An unpublished manuscript literary magazine in twelve numbers. 178x120mm. pp. [2], 256, [2]. Brown half calf notebook with marbled paper covered boards. Joints a little worn and split at the foot of the spine at the lower cover. Chipping to head and foot of spine. Paper label to spine printed with the title "The Companion". Hinges are worn and splitting in places and there is some slight soiling but overall it is in good condition.

Clairvaux: The Trianon Press for The William Blake Trust. 1977. Quarto. Original brown quarter morocco, spine lettered gilt, grey cloth sides. With original grey cloth slipcase. Illustrated with 51 monochrome portraits of William and Catherine Blake. Very light sunning to spine, else a fine copy. First edition, number 119 of 500 copies thus bound, from a total edition of 562. Geoffrey Keynes (1887-1982) was an academic, biographer, and the younger brother of John Maynard Keynes.

Oxford: OUP. 1913.185x130mm. pp. viii, 1350. Bound in red morocco by W.H.Smith (blind stamp on rear pastedown). Douglas Cockerell managed the bindery from 1906-1914 and this plain but attractive binding would have been made under his supervision as it was given as a Cheltenham Ladies' College form prize to Margaret E. Giddings in 1914. The upper cover has the monogram "CLC" of the school.

In the scarce original illustrated dustjacket. Some rubbing to head and foot of spine and fading to edges of upper cover. Dustjacket is chipped and a little torn in places along the top and bottom edge and upper cover has a price label reading "Offered at 1/-".

Spine has four raised bands decorated in gilt, compartments decorated in blind. Contrasting lettering pieces, lettered in gilt. All edges marbled. A little rubbing at the extremities.

Starting with a bungee jump on April Fool's Day 1979, the DSC went on, over the next decade or so, to embark on high profile, hazardous acts such as skiing down a mountain on a grand piano (an attempt to do the same with a double-decker London bus was banned), hang-gliding from active volcanoes and early BASE jumping. The text "Publish'd April 4th 1779 by R.E.Pine" in scratch letter on plate, within platemark below the image. Initials J.L.G.D handwritten in brown ink. Pencil inscription to lower margin: "The Death Mask of David Garrick with the eyes painted in". Platemark, 240x155mm. Sheet, 305x246mm. Some surface soiling, foxing and a small rubbed patch to the margin. The image itself is in excellent condition.

Handsomely bound in contemporary brown morocco, boards and spine heavily tooled in blind and with title in gilt to spine. Brass cornerpieces and clasp. Beautifully gauffred edges, marbled endpapers, maroon silk ribbon. A blank preliminary leaf has the inscription "The joint gift of Mary Vickery and William J.E. Bennett to Elisa Vickery on her Birth Day 16th of June 1854. Pro salute anima preces sunt perpetua in Christo". In immaculate condition throughout and the binding is a splendid Victorian period piece.

Top and bottom edges of jacket a little chipped and two small closed tears to foot of jacket. Internally very good but with some toning to the edges. Overall a very good copy. Rare (Worldcat recording ten copies) and especially so in the dustjacket.Margaret Long wrote under seven pseudonyms, principally as Marjorie Bowen. As Joseph Shearing she wrote crime mysteries, based on true stories overlaid with the supernatural.

Some foxing but overall a very good copy of fragile little book, rare in the wrappers.Robert Williams Buchanan (1841-1901) was a Scottish writer of some talent and contemporary success who is best remembered now for this work and the controversy surrounding it, especially his coining of the epithet "The Fleshly School of Poetry" to describe the work of Swinburne and Rossetti.

Protected by a loose buckram cover and housed in a slipcase. Repair to spine, joints and to hinges at the gutter. Surface crack to spine, corners slightly worn. Internally very good but with some marking and foxing and a little crinkling to the edges of some leaves. Each issue has the revenue duty stamp. Front pastedown has book label of Mary Elizabeth Hudson and the very discreet label W.A.S. which is William A.

Apart from some light shelfwear and a little foxing to the edges, this is in excellent condition throughout. The Giant under the Snow was John Gordon's first novel and established him as a striking new voice in children's supernatural fiction. It concerns mystery dogs, lost treasure and epic battles between good and evil.
