Front pastedown and verso of front free endpaper have the book tickets of Foyles and the front free endpaper has the bookplate of Barry Humphries.

The verso of the second leaf of preliminaries is numbered vi. Some foxing in places but otherwise, internally very good with the plates in excellent condition. Handsomely bound in slightly later red straight-grained morocco, upper and lower covers decorated with two double fillet borders in gilt enclosing a continuous "drawer-handle" design in blind and framing a continuous swag and drop border in blind.

Red, straight-grained full morocco, spine with five raised bands, compartments elaborately decorated in gilt. Gilt dentelles and marbled endpapers. Some very modest rubbing to extremities and bumping to corners but a lovely near contemporary binding in excellent condition. Some browning internally but a nice clean, crisp copy. Dark blue silk ribbon bookmark.

Pete Townshend's annotated rehearsal copy of the script for the stage production of his rock opera The Iron Man based on Ted Hughes's children's book of the same name. 48 A4 leaves printed on recto only. All but two are extensively annotated with directions ("PETE! ACTION"), observations ("Kids actually got bored in my best song!"), amendments, deletions and suggestions. Notes are in pencil, blue, black and purple ink and blue felt pen. More than one hand is at work in these notes but Townshend's is clearly evident.

Internally it is a little toned to the edges but overall an excellent copy of this groundbreaking and important book.

Front pastedown has the burgundy morocco bookplate of W.A.Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey.

Five raised bands, black morocco label in second compartment. Wear to spine and corners with some loss to spine. Repair to head and foot of spine.

Fifty-five hand coloured aquatint plates and one uncoloured plate containing two etchings showing battle plans for the Bombardment of Algiers an the Battle of Trafalgar. The original paintings were done by Thomas Whitcombe (c1760-1824) who was one of the finest marine painters of the time. The hand-coloured plates were done by Sutherland, Bailey and Jeakes and are of the highest quality and are in superb condition in this copy.
