This is a reproduction of David Cox's 1813 Treatise.

Modern speckled calf, borders to upper and lower covers decorated in blind, spine lettered in gilt. Some foxing and browning but overall a very good copy of a scarce and ground-breaking book on madness and mental health. William Battie (1703-76) was a Fellow of the Royal Society and President of the Royal College of Physicians. His principal medical interest was in what he called "the mad business".

Contemporary straight-grained dark blue morocco, borders in gilt and blind to upper and lower covers. Spine with four raised bands, decorated and lettered in gilt. Small round shelf label to foot of spine of volume one. All edges gilt. Seventy-one plates. Additional engraved illustrated title page to volume two. Slight scuffing to boards in two places and minor rubbing to extremities. Internally some browning and foxing but overall a very good copy in a handsome binding.

London: Printed for John Wyat. 1718 and 1719.A Volume of six tracts relating to the Bangorian Controversy. 8vo, 192x120mm. pp. [i], 56; 80; xxxii, 1-40, 41-96; 54, [i]; 46. Contemporary vellum, handwritten on the spine is "Pyle". Half title to the whole volume: "Mr Pyle's Answer to Mr. Law". From the Library of the Earls of Macclesfield, the front pastedown has the bookplate from the South Library. An attractive volume bringing together a series of letters by Thomas Pyle in support of Benjamin Hoadly's (Bishop of Bangor) Whiggish Low Church supinity. The final letter is a reply to Pyle.

Full calf, spine lavishly decorated in gilt, red morocco label to spine, lettered in gilt. Save for a few marks in near fine condition. Internally there is some foxing and spotting, heavy in places but overall a nice copy of a groundbreaking travel book. Arthur de Capell Brooke, from a land-owning family and the son of a baronet resigned his army commission after the Battle of Waterloo and embarked on a life of adventure and travel.

Two small closed tears to top edge of dust jacket; some slight fading and light foxing to top edge. Internally very good; overall in very good condition.The Times Literary Supplement praised this picaresque fragment with "...the comedy is of the same order as, but generally superior to, that of Under Milk Wood".

Brown cloth, original illustrated dustjacket. Some rubbing to extremities of jacket and a small mark on upper cover but otherwise in excellent condition throughout. Front free endpaper is inscribed "To John Russell Taylor with good wishes from Bill Naughton. 13th Feb 66".

A Novel.New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers.. 1895.First American edition published the year after the London first edition. pp. 177, [1bl, 6 publisher's adverts]. Original beige cloth lettered in gilt and decorated in silver and brown. Some soiling and rubbing and internally there is some foxing but overall a nice copy. Front free endpaper is signed Clementina Black so this is either the author's own copy or was signed by her for someone else. Rare in commerce and comparatively uncommon institutionally, OCLC recording sixteen copies. An Agitator is Black's most overtly political work of fiction.

[Dresden] . Various.An extensive collection of work by the Dresden artist M.E.Philipp who signed himself MEPH. 174 small prints mostly signed with varying small limitations. There is one engraved self portrait and one original sketch. The main collection of small prints falls into two broad categories. First is a set of 96 mounted bookplates made for various clients. 13 of these are in duplicate (or in a slightly different state) so there are 83 separate images. There are 4 unmounted duplicates.

An archive of material relating to the Stuckists, including originals of the various manifestos, a signed copy of Remodernism, advertisements and invitations to various Stuckist exhibitions and events, including leaflets and programmes for events organised by the Maidstone Poets, some of whom founded the Stuckists. A fascinating collection which traces the history and ideas of this radical, provocative and counter-cultural "anti-movement". The Stuckists were founded by Charles Thomson and Billy Childish on 4th August 1999 with the publication of the Stuckist Manifesto in which they declared themselves to be “Against conceptualism, hedonism and the cult of the ego-artist”.

London: Printed for J.M.Richardson. 1808.Second edition. 8vo in 4s. pp. iv, 179 [1bl]. Uncut in the original blue wrappers, large section of the spine is missing but original label is present. Heavily foxed. Inscribed in black ink on the front wrapper: "The Honble. Rufus King with Mr Alexr Baring's Compliments". This work, in which Alexander Baring makes the case for a liberalising of British trade policy towards the United States, was popular and influential, running to three editions in 1808 alone.

Blind stamp of the Royal United Services Institute Library at head of title page. Half calf, marbled paper covered boards, rebacked and corners repaired. Red morocco label to spine, lettered in gilt. Upper cover a little scuffed and edges rubbed. Front pastedown has presentation bookplate of RUSI with disposal stamp. Slightly foxed but overall a very good copy of an important book which resulted in the election of Knowles to be a Fellow of the Royal Society.

London: Printed for E. and C. Dilly. 1775.First (and seemingly only) edition. 8vo (172x100mm). pp. vi, [2], 141, [1 bl]. Quarter calf, marbled paper covered boards. Some rubbing to corners and joints but a very nice copy and internally excellent. Sir Robert Strange (1721-1792) was a Scottish engraver. Well connected, although with a tendency to fall out with potential patrons, he was a member of the Incorporated Society of Artists.

London: Printed by W. Bowyer and J. Nichols. 1769.Second edition, extensively revised and regarded as the best. Folio (367x230mm), pp. xvi, 464. Two maps (one double page), twenty-five plates (one double page) and ten vignettes in the text (a total of thirty seven illustrations, all engraved). Contemporary diced russia, gilt, panelled spine with double raised bands. Marbled endpapers, front pastedown has bookplate of Robert Frederick Green dated 1909. Light spotting to maps and slight offsetting from plates, otherwise very clean and fresh. A handsome copy in excellent condition throughout.

Oxford: Oxford University Press. 1960.Portfolio case in navy blue cloth over stiff boards (530x800mm) containing 6 plates (505x755mm) being prints of Hawksmoor's designs for All Soul's College, Oxford. Title printed on grey card with navy blue lettering and decorative border and pasted onto the upper cover of the portfolio. A blue ribbon ties the upper and lower boards together. The prints, which are in excellent condition show: 1. General Plan (undated, engraved by M. Van der Gucht); 2. Elevation of the East Range (1717, engraved by C. DuBosc); 3. Chapel and Refectory, plan and elevation (1717, engraved by H.

Tipped-in coloured frontispiece. 178 illustrations including 48 tipped-in coloured plates. Loosely inserted 16 pp. pamphlet biography of Arman by Pierre Restnay dated 1973 and in French. Arman (1928-2005),was a French artist who moved from using the objects as paintbrushes to using them as the painting itself.

Paris: Ch. Mendel. [1898].First edition. 280x190mm. pp. 48. Text in French. 28 photographs included in the text and seven plates. Original illustrated paper covers, with some soiling and a tear to the joint with lower cover. Internally near fine. A nice copy of a rare book which explains the techniques of photographing the female form both nude and clothed "en plein air". Paul Bergon (1863-1912) was both a photographer and a naturalist specialising in images of orchids and nudes.

Each photograph has printed captions (text in Spanish) pasted onto the bottom edge. The first leaf has the title details, printed on white paper, pasted in. Each photograph has a glassine protective sheet. Contemporary string bound album covered in maroon cloth and stamped with the name of the owner "Mervyn F. Ryan" on the upper cover with "Ahora Periodico Illustrado" stamped at bottom right corner.

Belvezy: Editions Anima Mundi. 2002.Limited edition, 19 of 50. 150x120mm. Unpaginated. pp.20. The text is printed in red from the Kleweta's calligraphy. Illustrated with six coloured engravings including one on the title page and line drawings in the text. Bound in red morocco illustrated on the upper cover and lettered in gold to upper and lower cover. Near fine. Printed by Kleweta on his own press, this is an attractive example of his distinctive dream-like style and left-field choice of subject mixing erotic prints with alchemical symbols.
