Despite the erratic pagination, it collates complete. Title page of appendix dated 1654. Contemporary reverse calf with dog-tooth and dotted line border to both covers. Spine with four raised bands. Boards and spine heavily worn and spine has loss to first compartment and to head and foot. Cracking to joints. Internally very good. A nice copy of Pococke's important collection of extracts from Maimonides's Arabic commentary on the Mishnah.

Bound by Henri Mercher in 1960, signed to foot of front pastedown. Boards are made of gold inlaid Plexiglas, the gold spelling out "Jean". Black morocco spine lettered in gilt. With the original slipcase. A striking binding in immaculate condition and an excellent example of Mercher's innovative design and technique in which he used unorthodox materials. Henri Mercher (1912-1976) trained with Robert Bonfils at the École Estienne.

Contemporary calf, double fillet borders to boards, rebacked to style with gilt decoration and black morocco label lettered in gilt. Edges and corners rubbed with a little wear to the latter. All edges speckled. Internally near fine. A very nice copy of the first book published by Ireland following his exposure as a forger. Rare in commerce, only two copies appearing at auction in the last fifty years.

Slight bumping to bottom edges and rubbing to corners and to head and foot of spines but otherwise a lovely set in very good condition and internally excellent save for a little foxing in places and some minor staining in volume two.

Farquharson was a well known literary agent and was Wright's agent in the negotiations for the first UK publication of Black Power.

Quite heavily foxed. Front free endpaper is inscribed "Ernest Black from C.B. January 1908". Clementina Black is best known as an activist and propagandist in the socialist, trade union and women's suffrage movements, but she made her living as a writer of political tracts and novels.

It is a catalogue of an exhibition organised by the Pacific Press Service whose founder was Robert Kirschenbaum. Kirschenbaum organised this retrospective of Eugene Smith's work in 1982, four years after Smith's death.

La Caricature (E. Forest)Paris: Gabriel Aubert. 1830-1835.Lithograph with hand colouring (255x190mm) by Eugene Forest. The image, from the satirical journal "La Caricature" shows a a closed door the upper half of which is glazed and behind which sits a sleeping man. The sign above the door reads "Parle z'o consierje SVP". The window opens to reveal the said concierge as a rude and angry and ill-tempered individual meeting any request with "Qui demandez vous?" Good to see the French hotels have changed little over the years.

KNIGHT, LauraA pencil drawing of a circus horse with a rider and the ringmaster standing next to it holding the rein. The drawing measures 275x192mm, mounted on white card and framed in black wood (406x327mm). One of two small spots of foxing but otherwise in immaculate condition. Laura Knight was fascinated by the circus and produced many drawings on the subject.

Rubbing and wear to the extremities and to spine. Internally near fine. Overall a very good copy. The preface offers a helpful history and explanation of this curious work. Printed by Wynkyn de Worde in the early part of Henry VIII's reign, it is a satirical poem of 1414 lines "in which various classes of society, chiefly of the lower order, are passed under review in rapid succession".

Front pastedown has the bookplate of Sloley Hall in Norfolk. Internally, there is some staining, quite heavy in places but overall a very attractive copy of a rare book: a nice example of an attractively printed Italian seventeenth century book with particularly good and striking illustrations.

Spine decorated with an attractive rococo design and lettered in gilt. Some slight rubbing and a few marks to the spine but otherwise in very good condition. Internally excellent but with some foxing.
