Russian Icon - 'The Twelve Feasts'
ANONYMOUS19th Century. Painted with prayer 19th Century Russian icon. 320x268mm. Tempera on wood with silver overlaid riza (cover), backed with velvet. Richly detailed Russian Christian icon, finely painted with glowing pigments on a gold ground. The central painting depicts Christ's resurrection and his appearance to the apostles. Flanking this are representations of the Twelve Feasts - significant events in Christ's life, from The Birth Of The Virgin to The Presentation in The Temple. Antique icons are said to have been "painted with prayer"; the painter asking God to direct their work, or praying while they paint.

Publisher's original black and white cloth printed with photographs on front and back and with gilt lettering on both covers and spine. Minor wear to spine and lower corners. Internally very good; overall in very good condition. Inscription on half-title reads "To Michael and Shakira 14th Feb '20 Jimmy N.Y.C. 2019" - these being British actor Michael and Guyanese actor and model Shakira Caine. Jimmy Page's photo autobiography is a memoir told in images.

Original black and white illustrated dust jacket protected by plastic cover. Some slight rubbing and chipping to the edges of the dust jacket but overall the binding and jacket are in excellent condition. Extensively illustrated throughout in black and white and colour design demonstrating the principles set out by Sutnar in his text. Accompanying the book is a collection of four A4 size original advertising and marketing leaflets showing Sutnar's work.

All edges marbled and marbled endpapers. Some light shelfwear but overall a stunning binding in near fine condition. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Shakespeare. Volume 1 includes an introductory Preface and biography with an Appendix, Shakespeare's Will, Preliminary Matter on the 1623 Folio and Commendatory Verses. Each play has annotations.
