Attractive set of the birding classic

Two volumes. Vol. I. Eighth edition. 8vo in 4s. (213x125mm). pp. xliv, 382. Vol. II. Sixth edition. pp. xxii, 432. Dark blue half calf, marbled paper boards. Spine decorated in gilt. Red morocco labels lettered in gilt. All edges marbled, marbled endpapers. Rubbing to extremities but otherwise in excellent condition and internally very good with only modest foxing and browning in places. The text has been interleaved with blank pages for birdwatching notes and some of these have handwritten notes. but overall a nice set in good condition.

Roscoe notes some new birds introduced in these editions as well as some other changes including new or altered engravings and the revision of the 'scientific' names.
