Twentieth century quarter brown morocco, marbled paper covered boards, spine lavishly decorated in gilt. Marbled endpapers. Some shelfwear and rubbing to joints. Upper cover has the remains of an auction label reading Lot 386. Internally very good. Overall a nice copy. This sweet little book is a short version of the Regimen sanitatis Salernitanum written in the 12th or 13th century and generally attributed to John of Milan.

The title is printed in grey and yellow on the upper covers with a Greek helmet device in the centre. Title printed in black on the spine.

Signed at foot of final page "Germaine Mimey 1890" with the initials "G.M." at the foot of each page. Bound by Emile Rousselle (signed at foot of front doublure) in tan morocco with a single fillet border framing a wide, gilt tooled border inside which is a smaller gilt tooled border which frames a shield with three fleur de lys surmounted by a crown. Below the shield is a dragon.

The first half of the book is a brief history of the nude in art from antiquity to the 20th century and there isa chapter at the end on the technique of nude photography.

La Caricature (A. Menut)Paris: Gabriel Aubert. 1830-1835.Lithograph with hand colouring (255x190mm) by A. Menut. The image, from the satirical journal "La Caricature" shows a young woman at her dressing table looking towards the window with a closed curtain across it. The curtain opens to reveal a young man climbing in through the window. A rather naughty looking cat gives us, the viewer, a knowing look. These prints containing a door or window which opens to reveal a visual joke not anticipated by the principal image are a feature of "La Caricature". Mounted on white card but unframed.

Original green cloth, paper label to spine. Staining to covers, spine faded, corners bumped. Internally very good. A nice copy of an important book creating an interesting link between two leading Irish scientists of the nineteenth century. The first part is a reprint of the six lectures given by Lloyd on unpolarized light in 1836 while the second part (on polarized light) appears for the first time. Rare in commerce.

The first sixteen pages contain information about seasons, lunar movements, star signs, Saint's days. The main part of the book is a collection of poems, stories and advice for ladies, for their "use and pleasure".

Number 259 of an unknown number of first printing copies of this striking and strikingly designed collection of beach photographs. The cover is card although with a faux-satin finish, decorated with a polka dot lenticular design, lettered in black. Crease to upper cover but otherwise very good. Printed on a variety of paper types from high quality gloss to soft kitchen-paper. The text, in French, is an essay by the photographer Sophie Baiss-Fabiani and, separately, an interview with her.
