Marks to spine. Internally very good with some pencil annotations. Front free endpaper has the ownership inscription "James Morton, Gowanbank, Darvel, Jan. 1896" and the front pastedown has the bookplate of Beatrice Emily and James Morton designed by C.F.A.Voysey. James was the son of Alexander Morton, the founder of the eponymous textile and weaving firm. James trained with the family firm, becoming a partner in 1895.

Title in blind at centre of upper cover and stamped in gilt to spine. Very slight marking to upper cover but otherwise in excellent condition and internally near fine. The slip case is covered in the same material and has some soiling and a red mark on one side.

Original grey paper covered boards, original label to spine. Tear to head of spine, rubbing to joints and corners of boards. Internally very good, a few pencil underlinings and marginal annotations and some pages unopened and overall a nice copy of a rare work located by Worldcat in seven UK libraries and none in the US.

Some slight foxing and staining to head of first gathering but overall a very good copy. Although published anonymously, this Tory response to Robert Hush's (i.e. Robert Walpole's) pamphlet The present state of fairy-land is recognised as the work of the doctor and satirist William Wagstaffe who moved in the same political and literary circles as Swift and John Arbuthnot.

In very good condition. John Arbuthnot (1667-1735) was highly regarded by contemporaries for his clever, supple mind and sharp pen. He was a member of the Scriblerus Club where he knew Pope and Swift (the latter is often said to have a hand in this work although he denied it) who admired Arbuthnot and felt that he should have taken greater credit for his talents as a writer, doctor and mathematician.

Grant of Probate of the will of John Bennett of Hawkhurst in the County of Kent to Anne Bennett his relict and executor named in the will. Single sheet, 152x131mm. The grant of probate is signed by the officers of the Court, a Court which, as the first words of the document remind us, was under the authority of "Oliver, Lord Protector of ye Commonwealth of England, Scotland, Ireland ye Dominions Territories thereto belonging".

London: Archibald Constable and Co. 1819.First edition. 12mo. 190x110mm. pp. viii, 170. Uncut in the original boards. Rubbing and some wear to extremities and boards are loose (but holding). Some foxing but otherwise in very good condition. Joseph John Gurney and Elizabeth Fry were brother and sister, scions of the great Gurney banking family. Elizabeth was already a noted campaigner for prison reform when she joined Joseph on a tour of prisons in Scotland and the North of England. This book is their report.

Beautifully bound by Charles Francois Capé in blue morocco, lavishly decorated in gilt with the monogram "A.M." at each corner of the covers, spine with five raised bands, compartments richly decorated and second compartment lettered in gilt, cream silk endpapers, all edges gilt.

Illustrated with thirteen wood engravings, twelve by Thomas Bewick from designs by his brother John and the final one by Bewick's pupil Charlton Nesbit. Bound in navy blue morocco, decorated in gilt and blind. Turn ins decorated in gilt. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Corners a little worn, some marking and scuffing to boards and rubbing to upper joint but overall a handsome binding in good condition. Some foxing and spotting but otherwise internally very good.

London: Printed by W. Bowyer and J. Nichols. 1769.Second edition, extensively revised and regarded as the best. Folio (367x230mm), pp. xvi, 464. Two maps (one double page), twenty-five plates (one double page) and ten vignettes in the text (a total of thirty seven illustrations, all engraved). Contemporary diced russia, gilt, panelled spine with double raised bands. Marbled endpapers, front pastedown has bookplate of Robert Frederick Green dated 1909. Light spotting to maps and slight offsetting from plates, otherwise very clean and fresh. A handsome copy in excellent condition throughout.

London: Printed for T.N.Longman and O.Rees. 1801.Only edition. Small 8vo. pp. [6], 201, [1bl]. Contemporary calf, double fillet borders to boards, rebacked to style with gilt decoration and black morocco label lettered in gilt. Edges and corners rubbed with a little wear to the latter. All edges speckled. Internally near fine. A very nice copy of the first book published by Ireland following his exposure as a forger. Rare in commerce, only two copies appearing at auction in the last fifty years.

Original yellow/gold rough canvas with title stamped in red on upper cover. Corners slightly bumped and light soiling on the covers. Internally very good with some slight marking in places. Overall a very nice copy. Some Limericks has long been a popular work, famous for its obscene verse and clever, amusing mock-scholarly apparatus. It has appeared in a number of pirated editions.

Belvezy: Editions Anima Mundi. 2002.Limited edition, 19 of 50. 150x120mm. Unpaginated. pp.20. The text is printed in red from the Kleweta's calligraphy. Illustrated with six coloured engravings including one on the title page and line drawings in the text. Bound in red morocco illustrated on the upper cover and lettered in gold to upper and lower cover. Near fine. Printed by Kleweta on his own press, this is an attractive example of his distinctive dream-like style and left-field choice of subject mixing erotic prints with alchemical symbols.

Pasadena: Twelvetrees Press. 1988.Schles's own inscribed copy. First edition. Limited to 2000 copies. Unpaginated. 233x176mm. Midnight blue cloth, blind stamped to upper cover and spine. Dust jacket is a photocopy as explained in the inscription by Ken Schles on the title page. The inscription reads: "For years I held this copy and showed it until the dust jacket disintegrated - I'm sorry - I had to put this xerox copy on the cover but it's a good book, no? This [the photograph on the title page] is in my apartment on Mott many years ago. LA 2009".

1971. Eight telegrams from Curt Claudio in America to John Lennon at Tittenhurst Park, Ascot. The telegrams are pasted as a group onto red card and framed. Most are in good condition although two are water stained and two others have some staining to the edges but all eight are clear and legible. They are part of a strange and fascinating story. In May 1971, a young man from California was found in the grounds of John Lennon’s house, Tittenhurst Park, Ascot. His name was Curt Claudio and he had been sleeping in the garden for a few days.

Leipzig: Ernst Oldenburg. 1931.Special issue 12 of Alfred Koch's leading naturist magazine Körperbildung-Nacktkultur. 221x142mm. pp. 54, [10]. 24pp with 43 black and white photographs. In original paper covers illustrated with a naked couple dancing on the beach. Scuffing to four of the images with a little loss but otherwise a nice copy of a rare volume. Adolf Koch was one of the leading proponents of the Freikörperkultur and developed his own method of nude gymnastics.

Leipzig: Parthenon-Verlag. 1927.First edition. 239x154mm. pp. 64. Original paper wrappers illustrated with a drawing of a Greek temple and a photograph of a naked woman. Slight creasing to the edges of the upper cover but otherwise in very good condition. Internally near fine with the photographs in superb condition. Ten pages of text (in German) and 48 black and white photographs by many of the leading photographers of the nude in 1920s German including Lotte and Rolf Herrlich and Dr Ernst Schertel.

n.p  c1820s.A set of six hand-coloured lithographs on card showing the hand signals made to communicate from a distance when game shooting. Mounted on linen with two backed with marbled card so that these form the covers when folded. The folded set is housed in a marbled paper covered card slip-case. Each card measures 66x132mm and unfolded the whole is 200x265mm. The prints are in superb condition, with the colours particularly fresh and bright.

London: John Thomas Smith. 1815.Second edition. Folio. Title page and forty etchings (of forty eight) sold as a collection of plates. Brown full morocco, raised bands with simple double fillet and fleur de lys design in blind, spine lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers with Van Gelder watermark. One very small mark on the upper cover and slight rubbing to corners and two small areas of rubbing to the front turn-ins but overall in excellent condition. Internally fine with the plates in superb condition and only slight foxing to the margins.

Tokyo: Chikuma Shobo. 1971.First edition. Portfolio of ten gravure prints, eight in black and white and two in colour. 592x420mm. The prints are in a large white envelope together with a separate title page on the verso of which are notes and details about the photographs (text in Japanese). They are protected inside the envelope by a heavy sheet of cardboard. This is all placed in a black card folder with an illustrated label covering part of the upper cover, spine and lower cover.

London: Art Yard Limited. 2019.Signed limited, lettered Edition (one of twenty six copies) with a set of four giclée prints. 280x220mm. pp. 344. Illustrated throughout with 306 photographs. Printed on 150gsm Garda Matt Ultra FSC (Italian paper stock). Pale blue cloth hardback with metal foiling and laminate print to both covers, lettered in gilt to spine. Lower cover has a poem from Sun Ra printed in gilt. With publisher's belly band. Housed in a printed cardboard box. Unopened, new and in immaculate condition. The giclée prints, measuring 270x210mm are titled "A Certain Darkness Is Needed To See The Stars".

London: Henry Roberts. 1742.Engraved, hand-coloured portrait of Margaret Finch after a 1739 drawing by John Straeho. Print measures 270x215mm. Mounted and framed in a Victorian decorated frame (380x313mm). The portrait shows Margaret Finch sitting on the ground, her legs drawn up to her chest and her chin resting on her knees. She is accompanied by her dogs and is smoking two pipes. Beneath the image is printed a brief biography of "this remarkable person". Margaret Finch was born at Sutton, south London in about 1640 and spent a life “Traveling ye Kingdom, as Queen of ye Gypsie Tribe”.
