Various. 1980s.An archive of material relating to an unreleased film about Brian Jones, the founder of The Rolling Stones. The project was led by Genesis P-Orridge, the artist, musician and co-founder of industrial music pioneers, Throbbing Gristle. P-Orridges worked on the proposals for the film with the writer Jon Savage who wrote the seminal work, England's Dreaming: Anarchy, Sex Pistols, Punk Rock, and Beyond. The archive consists of: 1. A copy of the seven inch vinyl single Godstar by Psychic TV and published by Temple Records.

Slight creasing to upper cover and spine, a small tear and some marking and soiling to lower cover and a short tear at foot of spine at joint with lower cover. Some ink underlining in a few places. Internally very good. A nice copy of a rare and scandalous book. I shall spit on your graves first appeared in French in 1946.

Original illustrated dustjacket. Slight creasing to edges of jacket and light soiling to lower cover but overall very good and internally fine.

London: New Literature (Publishing) Ltd.. 1961.an inverted parable of the cruelty of colour prejudiceFirst edition. 209x135mm. pp. 196. Orange cloth, lettered in black. Original illustrated dustjacket. Slight bowing to the boards and some creases and closed tears to the edges of the jacket and chipping to head and foot of spine of jacket. Overall a very good copy an extraordinary novel set among the Jamaican Maroons - a community of indigenous Caribbean Arawakan people who mixed with enslaved Africans who had broken free.

London: The Bodley Head.. 1974.First UK edition, first printing. 215x15mm. pp. [10], 11-412. Brown cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Original illustrated dust jacket. Front free endpaper has gift inscription.

Sydney: Ure Smith. 1960.First Australian edition, the novel having been banned there for 28 years following its first publication in England in 1930. 8vo. 196x125mm. pp. 318. Red cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Original dustjacket. Slight creasing and chipping to edges of jacket and a mark to the foot of the spine but otherwise in excellent condition. Internally very good with a little toning to the edges. This novel of small town, backwoods life in the Australian state of Victoria set in the 1890s portrays a society constrained by snobbery and tightly controlled social norms.

New York: E.P.Dutton & Company. 1923.First US edition in the scarce dustjacketFirst US edition. 8vo. 185x125mm. pp. [8], 368. Black cloth, lettered in red to upper cover and spine. Original dustjacket. Repaired closed tear to fold of dust jacket at spine and upper cover and small tears at the fold with the flap on the lower cover.

Grey cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Original dustjacket illustrated by Edward Bawden. Bumping to head and foot of spine. Repair to top and bottom edges of dustjacket and two closed tears to top edge and slight chipping to bottom edge of rear of dustjacket but otherwise in very good condition and internally excellent. It is not common in a good jacket. Camus's concise, dense, absurdist novel of alienation first appeared in 1942.

New York and London: The Olympia Press. [1971].Inscribed and with an introduction by William Burroughs. "I'd rather read Winnie the Pooh".One of only six uncorrected proof copies signed by William Burroughs. 213x175mm. Printed on recto only. ff. xv, 104. Brown wrappers, printed in black. In very good condition throughout. Half title has an inscription "I'd rather read Winnie the Pooh. Bradbury Robinson" which has then been crossed out in the manner of a Masson automatic drawing. Both the inscription and the scrawl are by William Burroughs who has signed the dedication leaf.

London: John Murray.. 1908.Inscribed by the author to her brother.First edition. 8vo. 185x120mm. [4], 295 [1bl, 4 publisher's adverts]. Blue cloth, lettered and decorated in white to upper cover and lettered in gilt on spine. Joints and edges of boards rubbed and head and foot of spine bumped. Some marking to boards. Quite heavily foxed. Front free endpaper is inscribed "Ernest Black from C.B. January 1908". Clementina Black is best known as an activist and propagandist in the socialist, trade union and women's suffrage movements, but she made her living as a writer of political tracts and novels.

A Novel.New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers.. 1895.First American edition published the year after the London first edition. pp. 177, [1bl, 6 publisher's adverts]. Original beige cloth lettered in gilt and decorated in silver and brown. Some soiling and rubbing and internally there is some foxing but overall a nice copy. Front free endpaper is signed Clementina Black so this is either the author's own copy or was signed by her for someone else. Rare in commerce and comparatively uncommon institutionally, OCLC recording sixteen copies. An Agitator is Black's most overtly political work of fiction.

London: Herbert Jenkins. 1924. First edition. 185x120mm. pp. 192. Illustrated with amusing line drawings. Green cloth blocked in black to upper cover and spine. In the scarce original illustrated dustjacket. Some rubbing to head and foot of spine and fading to edges of upper cover. Dustjacket is chipped and a little torn in places along the top and bottom edge and upper cover has a price label reading "Offered at 1/-". Internally very good with some slight toning.

New York: The Viking Press. 1961.First edition. 8vo. 202x135mm. pp [6], 152. Quarter cream cloth, blue paper covered boards, spine lettered in blue. Original illustrated dustjacket. Slight creasing to top edge of jacket and chipping to head of spine and three small closed tears to the jacket but otherwise in excellent condition and near fine internally. A very good copy of Matthiessen's third novel which examines the fragility of goodness in the face of all-encompassing evil.

London: Secker & Warburg. 1972.Wondering what the hell's going on. First UK edition. 197x125mm. pp. 218. Publisher's blue cloth with slight damage to spine. Original illustrated pop art dustjacket designed by Paul May in the manner of Roy Lichtenstein. Some slight rubbing to the extremities of the jacket, marking to the lower cover and creasing to the spine. Internally in excellent condition throughout. A rare book and an even rarer dustjacket. Crews learnt karate in order to write this book - a typically immersive act. But the book is only partly about karate.

Bombay: Padma Publications Ltd.. 1942.Revised and enlarged third edition, third reprint of September 1942. 183x120mm. pp. [12], 84. Original paper wrappers bound into black cloth boards. The fragile wrappers are a little soiled scuffed and with some surface damage. Leaves are browned but overall a very good copy of one of the twentieth century's most influential works of civil disobedience. August 1942 was a critical month for Gandhi and the movement to free India from the British Empire. On 8th August he delivered his "Quit India speech" in which he called upon Indians to "Do or Die".

Paris: Galerie René Drouin. 1949.First edition. 201x170mm. Unpaginated. pp. [52]. Beige card wrappers with the title printed on the upper cover. Stapled at the spine. Printed on coloured paper and illustrated throughout with fifty two reproductions of the works shown in this celebrated exhibition of Art Brut organised by the Compagnie de l'Art Brut at Galerie Rene Drouin in Paris where Dubuffet had his first exhibition.

London: T. Dolby. 1821.First edition. 225x145mm. pp. viii, 7 [1bl], 8, 271, [3]. Frontispiece portrait and five further etched portrait plates. Uncut in the original boards. Tan morocco spine. Rubbing and wear to spine, edges and corners with some loss to head and foot of spine. Upper joint is split but holding. Leaf 2L has a closed tear without loss. Although a little delicate, it is in very good condition overall and is a rare book institutionally, Library Hub recording only six copies in the UK and comparatively scarce commercially.

London: Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co., Ltd. 1928 & 1929.First editions. Two volumes published separately but sold together as usual. 8vo. 237x152mm. pp. xv [ibl], 356; xii, 330. Both with eight illustrations. Both bound in publisher's brick-red cloth, lettered in gilt to spine. Front pastedowns have book plates of D.A.King formerly ("Olim Civis") of the Colleges of St Salvator and St Leonard in St Andrews. Without the (scarce) dust-jackets. Fading to spines (more marked in the first volume) and bumping to head and foot of spines. Rubbing to extremities. Some marking to boards.

n.p. . n.d. [c1970].Two volumes. 254x202mm. pp. 7 [1bl], 42. 6 illustrations; 47 [1bl], 9 illustrations. Typed pages stapled at left edge with green card covers on the first volume and orange on the second. Some marks and toning on the covers and four of the leaves have been repaired with coloured tape at the edges. An utterly bizarre (and unrecorded) home-made production of which we have been unable to find another copy. At first sight, on encountering the photocopied illustrations, this would appear to be a fantasy work for rubber fetishists.

Rodez: n.p. 1943.First edition predating the trade edition by a year. 165x105mm. pp. 12. Typed and copied on a roneotype. Beige wrappers, stapled. Water-stained and some marking to the wrappers. This "hors commerce" edition was made privately by Artaud when he was a patient at the psychiatric hospital in Rodez, hence its home-made quality. It was followed in 1944 by a trade edition limited to fifty copies.

Chicago: Novel Books, Inc. 1963.First edition thus. 178x108mm. pp. 160. Illustrated wrappers. Some rubbing and creasing to covers but overall in excellent condition. This little book tells the story of Carl Rollins Hammonds. Having grown small breasts as a teenager, Hammonds worked as "half-man/half-woman" as a carnival dancer under the name Hedy Jo Star. Estrogen began to change her appearance more radically and in 1955, "I changed my sex" first appeared. In 1962 she underwent full gender reassignment surgery and this paperback edition appeared the following year.

Los Angeles: Feral House.. 1989.Inscribed "For Sherry, a potent witch in her own right! Rege Satanas! Anton Szandor La Vey". The "Y" at the end of Sherry and Vey have forked devil tails. 208x130mm. pp. [20], 274, [8]. Orange wrappers, some shelfwear and creasing to corners but overall a very good copy and internally excellent. Books signed by LaVey (and particularly with such fulsome inscriptions) are rare.The Satanic Witch is a provocative and influential work first published in 1971.

London: Macmillan & Co, Limited. 1911-13.Presentation copy to Edward Clodd. Third edition. Eleven volumes, without the Bibliography and General Index, but with a copy of volume III of the 1924 The Belief in Immortality with an ALS from Frazer to Edward Clodd. Original publisher's green cloth (although volumes 5-8 are in blue cloth). Upper cover is decorated with a mistletoe design in gilt. Spines lettered in gilt. Volume 3 (Taboo and the Perils of the Soul) has been repaired at the head of the spine (with a very slight loss of the gilt lettering).
